CBD gummies are easy to dose, portable, and discreet, and they come in various flavors, making them a good choice for people looking to try CBD for the first time.
Our team has been testing CBD gummies hands-on since 2022. We continue to retest many of the gummies to evaluate the flavor, experience, and effects. We also continue to monitor third-party testing results. Our editors and staff have tried all the gummies you see in this article and provided feedback to help make choosing and buying the best CBD gummies a little easier.
First, we evaluated more than 150 CBD gummies to ensure that third-party testing results are current, show no contaminants, and contain only allowable levels of THC. We also made sure the products didn’t make any outlandish, misleading health claims. Then, we chose 20 products to test and narrowed those down to these seven, which rank as the best CBD gummies in our book.

Healthline’s review
We tested Cornbread Hemp’s gummies twice in 2022 and twice in 2024. All four times, testers had positive comments about the taste — not overly sweetened or flavored but also not too bitter.
They have a higher potency and may include up to 2 milligrams (mg) of THC per gummy, so this brand is a great choice if you’re looking for a strong CBD gummy that doesn’t taste overly potent. Since each gummy has 2 mg of THC, those who haven’t taken THC or CBD before may want to start with half of a gummy.
Testers commented that the gummies helped them feel more sleepy and drowsy when taken before bed and less stressed during the workday.
“Over the course of 3 consecutive days, I had 1 or 2 gummies at night and found I felt sleepier faster or sooner than I normally would,” said one reviewer, Candice Abellon, during our first round of testing in 2022. “I found I also slept through the night without waking up until morning.”
We recently had a tester with more advanced sleep issues caused by obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) comment that they did not have any impact on her sleep, so it’s worth noting that if your sleep troubles come from an underlying condition, there’s no research to support that CBD will have a strong impact.
Similarly, there’s not super conclusive evidence that CBD benefits anxiety. We’ve heard mixed reviews in that department. Between two testers in 2024 who manage anxiety, one reported the Cornbread Hemp gummies were helpful for anxiety that crept up at the end of the day, while another still experienced some racing thoughts (the latter is based on initial short-term use, and the tester is currently testing long term to report back).
Both testers still engage with other forms of therapy and treatment for anxiety, so it’s best to think of CBD as a possible additional tool — not a stand-alone solution.
Another tester, Sydney Samuels, who tried them for more mild daily stress, said, “I planned to test them for a week, but I noticed the effects much sooner. After two days, I felt less stressed (especially at work) and could tell the gummies were working.”
These gummies also come in a 300-mg strength, which works out to 10 mg CBD and 0.5 mg THC per gummy (20 mg CBD with 1 mg THC per 2-gummy serving). This may be better for less experienced CBD users.
Cornbread Hemp uses Kentucky-grown hemp that’s certified organic by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The cannabinoids in these gummies are derived from the flower of the plant — not the stalk and stem — providing higher cannabinoid and terpene content.
Cornbread Hemp also offers discounts for veterans, first responders, teachers, medical professionals, students, nonprofit employees, and more through VerifyPass.

Aspen Green Bliss Organic CBD Gummies contain 100 mg CBD — a very potent dose — as well as 5 mg THC per serving, or 1 gummy. These gummies are flavored and colored with natural, plant-based sources and are USDA-certified organic.
If you don’t want to feel psychoactive effects, or if you’ll be tested for cannabis use, it’s best to skip these gummies. They may be too potent for beginners, so keep that in mind. We only recommend them for advanced users.
One of our editors and an experienced CBD user, Christy Snyder, first tested these gummies when they had a 50-mg formulation and again in 2024 when Aspen Green updated the formula to be more potent. She frequently takes them to help her fall asleep and reports they have a tropical taste with no hemp undertones.
Aspen Green also has assistance and discount programs for military personnel, first responders, medical professionals, teachers, students, and people who are disabled, have low incomes, or are unemployed. The discount is 35% to 60% off for those who qualify.

CBDfx gummies come in a Mixed Berry flavor and contain all-natural ingredients. The gummies are organic and broad-spectrum. They are also vegan and low in sugar compared with a lot of CBD gummies, at 1 gram (g) of sugar in a single gummy. Because they are lower in sugar, we find that they don’t taste as sweet as other gummies.
The whole bottle contains 1,500 mg of CBD between 60 gummies. Each gummy has 25 mg of CBD, so it’s a first-time-friendly serving size. Our tester reported that the effects were very mild, and she didn’t feel any physical sensation until third day, when she took 4 gummies throughout the day.
It’s a good option if you’re looking for a CBD gummy that has decent dose without causing any stereotypical cannabis effects. Even though each gummy contains 25 mg of CBD (a middle range dose), its effects seem to be mild, likely due to the fact that it’s a broad-spectrum gummy.
They’re vegan, GMO-free, and made in the United States, and they don’t contain any artificial sweeteners or high fructose corn syrup.

Joy Organics uses tapioca syrup and organic cane sugar to sweeten its premium gummies. They come in Green Apple and Strawberry Lemonade flavors. They’re THC-free, gluten-free, cruelty-free, and vegan. We appreciate that they are organic and cater to both more experienced and beginner users with various potency options.
Like the Cornbread Hemp and Aspen Green Bliss gummies on our list, they are certified organic by the USDA. However, they also offer a serving option of 10 mg per gummy for those looking for a low dose CBD gummy.
Both of our testers in 2022 and 2024 noted a slightly bitter aftertaste, so they aren’t the sweetest gummy on our list. If you prefer the earthy flavor of CBD, you might like these. But if you’re banking on an intense strawberry lemonade flavor masking all traces of hemp, it may fall short of expectations in the taste department (though they still smell very much like strawberry lemonade according to our testers).
Joy Organics displays its full process for growing and processing hemp on its website. The company’s hemp is U.S.-grown and it also offers a discount for veterans, first responders, teachers, medical personnel, and more.

Healthline’s review
Despite their name, CBD gummy bears from Sunday Scaries are on par with the potency options for most gummies our list. Each gummy has 25 mg of full-spectrum CBD, and the brand recommends taking 2 gummies for a total of 50 mg. They come 20 to a bottle.
That’s perhaps the biggest downside to these gummies — if you’re taking them daily, they would only last you 10 days. Even if cutting it back to 1 gummy per day, you would still need to purchase multiple bottles per month if you take CBD daily.
If you take it for occasional stress, at only $39 per bottle, it’s not a bad buy considering it also contains and minor cannabinoids, such as cannabigerol (CBG) and cannabinol (CBN), which might offer extra support for stress relief.
When we first tested in 2022, our reviewer reported a mellow effect that helped her relax on occasion but didn’t result in any high or intense sense of relaxation. During our current testing in 2024, we noticed that taking the 2-gummy serving about an hour or 2 before bed was enough to induce some brain fogginess (in a good way).
That said, if you’re taking CBD daily, our overall pick by Cornbread Hemp is the better buy at the same price point for a potent, full-spectrum CBD gummy.
When it comes to taste, they’re not the most flavorful, but they also don’t put out a bitter hemp taste. So you might like these gummies if you prefer a more neutral flavor experience that’s not too sweet. Our 2024 tester was partial to the green and orange gummies but did find there was a disproportionate number of yellow gummies in her bottle.
Compared with other gummies we’ve tried, they have more of a traditional gummy bear texture — a little firmer.

Soul CBD sells isolate (pure CBD) products. Their CBD gummies are available in strengths of 10 mg or 25 mg per gummy. Soul CBD guarantees their gummies are vegan, organically farmed, and have zero THC.
Both of our testers found them to be effective for helping with daytime productivity and blocking out mental distractions, so we recommend them as best for daytime use when you don’t want any extra brain fogginess that might come with a full-spectrum product or one with added THC.
While all CBD products are required to contain less than 0.3% THC, isolate products should have absolutely no THC compared with broad- and full-spectrum products. They will also contain no other compounds from the hemp plant such as other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. It’s CBD in the purest form.
These gummies are available in a host of flavors, including Raspberry, Seriously Sour, Pineapple Mango, Passion Fruit, and more.

These broad-spectrum gummies are available in three flavors: Peach, Watermelon, and Sour Apple. Each gummy contains 25 mg of organically grown CBD. They’re non-GMO.
We chose them as the best broad-spectrum gummy because the brand infuses them with what’s called live resin. This may to contribute some of the benefits and effects of full-spectrum products or those with added THC without actually adding any THC.
Our tester finds that they help her fall asleep when her usual tricks aren’t — er, doing the trick.
Compared with our other two broad spectrum picks:
- They contain more added sugar than CBDfx gummies.
- They aren’t organic like the Joy Organics gummies.
- CBDfx and Joy Organics have more potency options.
- They could be more effective for some with the added live resin.

What to look for when choosing CBD gummies
Use the following criteria when buying CBD gummies:
CBD source
The first thing to consider when purchasing CBD gummies is the type of CBD used.
CBD isolate is pure CBD, with no other cannabinoids. While isolates are good for consumers who want to avoid THC, this extraction method strips away the flavonoids and terpenes found in cannabis. This means the end result won’t provide the full range of health benefits.
Products made with broad-spectrum CBD contain most cannabinoids, plus other cannabis compounds, but they generally don’t contain THC.
Products made with full-spectrum CBD can contain all the plant’s cannabinoids, including THC. Full-spectrum products provide the most therapeutic benefits as a result of the entourage effect, which means that cannabinoids have a greater effect combined than consumed alone.
The best bet is to go for a full- or broad-spectrum product made with organic hemp grown in the United States. Hemp grown in the United States is subject to agricultural regulations, and it can’t contain more than 0.3% THC.
Any product that doesn’t specifically say what type of CBD was used — for instance, listing only “cannabis extract” as an ingredient — is probably one to avoid.
Potency
Doses vary widely across CBD products, and potency may depend on the CBD source. For example, a 5-mg full-spectrum CBD gummy may feel a lot more potent than a 5-mg CBD isolate gummy.
If you’re unsure what dose to look for, the best bet is to start with the lowest one available — generally 2.5 mg to 5 mg — and increase from there.
Ingredients
There’s a lot more to CBD gummies than just CBD. Other ingredients can vary widely. Pay attention to additives like artificial ingredients and preservatives.
You may also want to avoid high fructose corn syrup, and if you’re vegan or have allergies, look for products that match those needs.
Consider CBD gummies made with organic, non-GMO ingredients, real sugar, and natural flavorings. Although you can purchase CBD products that contain vitamins or adaptogenic herbs, it may be best to avoid these, as experts aren’t sure how CBD interacts with vitamins, minerals, or supplements.
Third-party testing
Currently, the FDA doesn’t guarantee the safety, effectiveness, or quality of over-the-counter CBD products.
However, to protect public health, the FDA can take actionTrusted Source against CBD companies that make unfounded health claims. It’s important to do your research and find a quality product.
Take a look at the COA and make sure the product has been tested for contaminants like heavy metals, pesticides, and molds. You can also use the COA to verify that the product actually contains the amount of CBD and THC that the label says it does.
Beware of any company that promises extreme results, and remember that results may differ. A product that works well for a friend or family member may not have the same effects for you.
If a product doesn’t work for you, consider trying another with different ingredients or a different amount of CBD.
How to take CBD gummies
Most gummies come in packs of 20 to 60, and they’re dosed at 5 mg or more of CBD per gummy. If you’ve never tried CBD, start with a 5-mg gummy. Some gummies can be cut in half, so you can start with 2.5 mg.
Wait up to 2 hours to experience the full effects, and if you feel like you need more, experiment until you find your “just right” dose. You can consume gummies daily, but keep in mind that the effects of a gummy tend to last 4 to 6 hours.
Store in a cool, dark place away from sunlight.
How do CBD gummies work?
Some prefer ingesting CBD by eating edibles like gummies. CBD gummies are offered in a variety of potencies. But generally, it’ll be about 30 to 60 minutesTrusted Source before the results begin, although it can take longer.
When you eat a CBD gummy, your body will first absorb it in the digestive system. Next, the active ingredients can move into your bloodstream, making their way to your liver.
From here, your liver metabolizes the ingredients before entering the bloodstream again and then finally making it to your brain.
This is when people generally notice the results, although everyone’s experience with onset time may be different. Of course, if you eat a CBD gummy on an empty stomach, you might notice results faster than if you take it with a full stomach.
Safety tips and side effects
CBD is non-intoxicating, meaning it will not get you “high.” Experts generally recognize it as safe, and there are few side effects, though they do occasionally occur.
Possible side effects
- fatigue
- diarrhea
- changes in appetite
- changes in weight
Research from 2017 suggests that CBD may interact with liver enzymes and interfere with metabolizing other medications or breaking down toxins. Always consult a clinician before using CBD products, especially if you take any medications or supplements.
Additionally, keep in mind that some researchTrusted Source suggests that consuming CBD with high fat meals could increase your risk of side effects. This is because high fat meals can increase CBD blood concentrations, which can increase the risk of side effects.
If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, avoid CBD.

Takeaway
CBD may have health benefits, and gummies are a great place for CBD-curious folks to start. Stick with full- or broad-spectrum products made with organic hemp grown in the United States, and be sure that whatever you buy is third-party tested.
Start slowly, enjoying enough of a gummy to ingest 2.5 mg to 5 mg of CBD. Evaluate any effects as you slowly work your way toward finding the right amount for you: your Goldilocks dose. Wait up to a full 2 hours before taking any additional CBD.
Consult a clinician before taking CBD, especially if you’re currently on any other medication.

Is CBD legal? The 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp from the legal definition of marijuana in the Controlled Substances Act. This made some hemp-derived CBD products with less than 0.3% THC legal at the federal level. However, CBD products containing more than 0.3% THC still fall under the legal definition of marijuana, making them illegal at the federal level. Some states have legalized CBD, so be sure to check state laws, especially when traveling. Also, keep in mind that the FDA has not approved nonprescription CBD products, and some products may be inaccurately labeled.
